2 DVD's->1 with menu. Help.

I have a few veggie tales dvds that my neice likes to watch. The videos are short, about 30-40 min. long. I want to combine 2 or 3 of the dvds onto 1 dvd with a menu. How can I do this? I tried loading the video ts files in DVD author but it says it's an illegal file. Thanks.

Use DVD Shrink in "Re-author" mode...

By the way, if you can live with one audiostream and no subtitles, you can NOW use "TMPGEnc DVD Author" (Different than "TMPGEnc") to easily create a menu or menus for your compilation...

Sorry to bring up an old post, but I'm having the same problem. Trying to combine 2 dvd's into 1 for easier viewing (3 part Nova documentary).

I can use DVDShrink to reauthor and it works but no menus so I cannot select a part to watch. When I try to use TMPGenc DVD Author, I get a "GOP too long" error. When I ignore the error, the resulting DVD is stop-action like with no audio both on my PC and on my DVD player, and the final size is about 2/3 what DVD Author said it was going to be. Using TMPGenc to re-generate (sorry, don't know what the correct term is) the resulting mpg files too are too small, and stop-action like with no audio.

Any tips on how to reauthor AND have a menu to select parts I've added together?

Try ripping the .vob's to mpg using Flaskmpeg.
You should then be able to import those mpg's into TDA or other authoring app.

Thanks, I'll dig out my old tutorial on how to use flaskmpeg.

Can anyone tell me why when I use TMPGenc DVD Author and use these long GOP VOB's that the resulting file is calculated to be huge, but in the end the file ends up being 2/3 the size and goofed up? I've seen posts about "just ignore that warning about long GOP's, it'll play fine" but it seems DVD Author is mangling the VOB's.

Just tried it - didn't work. The first clip ended up too short - about 800MB instead of 1.5GB. I briefly watched the 2nd clip and it was stop action.


Downloaded XMpeg (flaskmpeg replacement?) Don't know quite how to use it but going to give it a try.

Seems odd that this is so hard.

Okay, tried running the VOB's through XMpeg.

The result was stop action video, audio that was about 20 min out of sync.

Arrrgh!

I'm going to playback the DVD's into my Hauppage PVR250 and see if I can't just capture it as a 'normal' MPEG2 file.
