Is there any advantage of splitting to multiple files or not?

Greetings:

Either using DVD shrink or DVD decryptor, is there any advantage or disavantage of splitting the movie into multiple chunk of files (usually 1GB)? Will it take longer to ripp and burn one 4GB instead of multiple 1GB? Will it be more reliable using multiple files than one big file? Your comments and advice is greatly appreciated.

If you are going to play them as DVD movies - go for the 1Gb splitt otherwise they will not work as they don't use the standard format for UDF.
