Burned vcd will not play in my dvd player (standalone) PLEASE help a newbie in need!

    Burned vcd will not play in my dvd player (standalone) PLEASE help a newbie in need!

    I have read all the forums, guides...and still having a problem. I am a complete newbie but i managed to download movies and also convert them to mpeg1 and also managed to fix synch problems etc.......now, here is my problem...I was told that i did not need a dvd burner to burn movies i downloaded to disks, and play on a standalone dvd player....I viewed the movie, after conversions etc....got it perfect.....burned to a cd, said it was successful....but when i go to put in my dvd player, i can sort of hear the sound and see a top section of the movie (barely) but the rest is all jumbled in bunch of little squares, totally unviewable.........and after a few seconds, the video totally screws up...why? What have i done wrong...was i misinformed that I could play the cds I burned on my regular dvd player? Is there a way to fix this so i can view the movies I burned on my dvd player...please help , its hard enough doing this being a newbie, then add in being female, *sigh*

      They have to be saved as MPEG1-VideoCD format, not simply MPEG1.

      And just so you know, many standalone players will not recognize many (if any) brands of CD-R and/or CD R/W - even if they play commercial VCDs.

      P.S. The same information is provided at this forum regardless of gender - so there's no need to "play the female card" (whether or not it's legitimate)...

          Thanks for your reply....btw it was saved as MPEG1-VideoCD format, and my dvd player claims to play dvd/vcd/SVCD/mp3........as far as brands, are your refering to the disks themselfs (ex memorex, etc) or the brand of dvd player (apex, sony, etc)...........The people where I bought the dvd player said when i specifically asked, that it would play movies I burn off the net......then again, maybe they were mistaken . Thank you for time responding, I really appreciate it =)

              CD-R and CD R/W refer to CDs and not to players...

              This means that although, "dvd player claims to play dvd/vcd/SVCD/mp3", it may only play COMMERCIALLY created CDs of these formats (which are not made the same way you and I "burn" CDs).

              If you'd care to share some information - such as which software and with what settings, you've used to make the VCD - perhaps some specific assistance might be provided...
