    Media Compatibility

I've burned a copy using DVD shrink 3.1 It plays fine on my computer, but not on my Sony DVP-S560D. I went to http://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers & did a search for my player to see if it is compatible with a DVD+R, which is the media that i was using. I believe that it is, but by reading some of the user comments i am not so sure. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Should i get a new player or just new media?

Simply purchase some high quality DVD-R media, such as Ritek/Ridata or Verbatim...

OK, but i used TMPGEnc DVD authoring to create video & audio_ts directories for a mpeg-2 file that i had on my pc. I wrote that to the same media, & it played with no problems. I don't know what the difference is between a mpeg-2 file that was converted into DVD compatible files & the files that are on a movie DVD.

You could use bitsetting/book mark on your + media.

i don't see anything about bitsetting, but i will continue to look. I just don't understand how i could convert a mpeg-2 file to dvd Video_ts files with the same media, & not have a problem, & when i write dvd video_ts files from a backed up movie, again using the same media, it won't play on my player, but it will on the pc.

"but not on my Sony DVP-S560D"

What happens when you try to play the burned DVD+R in your Sony?

Older Sony standalone players tend to "gag" on FULL DVD+Rs after an hour or so of perfect playback.

However, as I suggested, they playback DVD-Rs perfectly...

Hello, Im new here. Ive just started backing my dvd's a few days ago using Shrink. I wanted to suggest to Smashmouth, as I to have a older Sony(dvp-s360), try lowering your burn speed to 2x. I was first using 8x and I to got the C 13 00 error. After about 3 coasters, I lowered my burn speed and now my dvd's play flawless. Im using Maxell 4x DVD-R and Memorex 2x DVD-RW. RW's came in after burning 3 coasters and my Sony plays those also. Thanks

Thanks for the suggestion. I am only burning at 2.4, so i don't know if that will make a difference. I am going to try a dvd rw. This is just so frustrating. My buddy at work gave me this dvd player, largely because it is an older player that doesn't play the backup copies. I may end up having to give it away to some other poor scmuck.

"I may end up having to give it away to some other poor scmuck."

That would be ABSOLUTELY foolish because, as I've twice before suggested (from my firsthand experience), they playback DVD-Rs perfectly...

Thanks to all that have tried to help me. I was successful with a DVD+RW. I tried it with a DVD-R ,but nero wouldn't read it. I guess i will have to use DVD+RW with this player.

What brand and model number burner do you have?

Is your burner a +/- burner?

Once I started burning at 2x, DVD-R play flawless.
It's like dvd player can't read disc when burnt faster.
Maxell play great, Verbatim is jumpy(sporadic).
