My movies dont back up, but my duaghters does

Hello, all.

I am a newbie and am going bonkers. I have had trouble using DL, +R and -R disks. I back up my duaghters teen movies with no errors, gliches and freez ups.

I went through 3 Verbatim +R, 3 Value +R, 3 Verbatim -R and 4 DL +R disks.

Sometimes the movies run fine on my PC and LapTop, sometimes it takes forever to read. When I put it in my Panisnonic DVD RV20 I can get one out of ten to play and I thaught it was just the +R issue. Could it be that the DVD player is maybe a few years to old to easily recognize non original disks.

Worst case I will replace the PC vid card with an S-Video out and run a cable to the TV.

Any tips or points on this..

I appologies if I am bothering you all but I have been browsing the site and searching and have tried most things with little or no results.

That link is a great help and is expanding this new range of info I need for this new toy. I just want to mention that the DVD VR20 is a stand alone DVD player,

My current load out for drives is,

TDK 24x10x40 CD burner

Plextor PX-716A DVD R/RW/DL

My suspiscion is that my DVD player being some where around 6 years old might not like to recognize media other than originals

That could very well be the problem.

I have to thank you both very much. Both replies have given me a world of info and help.

Now I need help in a new direction. I bought a new HD, good deal at officemax, WD 160Gig for $79.00 after rebate. But now I need to spend money again, LOL. what would you all recomend for a stand alone DVD player of decent quality that you know to be backup compatible and can be sync with a SAT PVR and surround theater.

I have to give a little bio about my self. I was very capable to handle tech issues 2 years ago. Jan 11, 2003 a co worker took his anger out on me and I ended with 2 brain surgeries in one night. Part of my memory is gone for good and I need to relearn some things. So I do very much thank you 2.

I have a Sony DVP-NS425P stand alone DVD player that plays all formats. (Formats include: +R, +RW, -R, -RW) I love it! I paid around $60 US dollars for it at Target. I also have a satellite and a PVR and surround sound system, it works well with all.

Regarding your bio, which hit home with me tremendously!! I am in the same shoes, as I was in a terrible car accident. I have a TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury). I died 5 times, was in a coma for about a month, had to relearn EVERYTHING all over again. I would say I am about %85 back to normal as I still walk with a minor limp, my equilibrium is way off, and my short term memory is horrible!!! Doctors told my parents that I wouldn't survive and if I did I would be a vegetable for the rest of my life and I would never walk again! Well, I'm not a vegetable, and I do walk. (was in a wheel chair for about 4 months though) I'm sure there is more but, I'm probably forgetting. <-- lol

Hey yall. I read all there was reefering to my problem.

I found a simple answere, now I feel like a dummy or I still am missing something.

Before I was unchecking the spanish, french and subpicture stuff. I set them back to complete original and burned a Verbatim DVD+R disk and it ran on my DVD player with no glitches.

Now the question is, why? LOL

For some reason, when subpictures are unchecked from the backup in DVD Shrink, it causes problems. Even though you do not need them when you back up, you may want to leave them on there as they are of insufficient in size to even make a difference in the quality.
