    loading subtitles

I have dowloaded house of flying daggers with subtitles, but I can't seem to access the subtitles. When I try to download the subtitles, I get the following message:

To load subtitles you have change video renderer type and reopen the file
    - directshow: VMR7 or VMR9 renderless
    - realmedia: special renderer for real media, or open it through
    direct show
    - quicktime: DX7 or DX9 renderer for quicktime
    - shockwave: n/a

Can anyone tell me what this means please?

i'm getting the same problem except i downloaded 2046.

you have to go into View/Options/Playback/Output, and then go into the DirectShow video options and select either the VMR7 (renderless) ** or VMR9 (renderless) **.

for some reason i can load subtitles when using VMR7 (renderless) ** but i get a double screen effect with a green filter. its horrible...i hate having to watch the movie in that condition...

but when i use VMR9 (renderless) ** the picture quiality is excellent but i cannot load the subtitles.

can anyone help me with my problem??

    Thanks.

Hi, it puzzled me@1st, too! Go2 view -> Options -> Playback -> Output and set the DirectShow video, 1st column in the right hand pane2either VM7(renderless) or VMR9(renderless)
Also set both RealMedia and quicktime video2D2DirectX 7 or 9, accordingly.
      That should do it!

this thread is over a year old,

but you don't need vmr9 to view subs. download & install vobsub, make sure the file names of the subs and video are the same, and play. they can be viewed in overlay

Should also be able to use Haali's renderer. Newest version of directvobsub is part of vsfilter. I would suggest that over the several years old now vobsub.
