Just so you know, there is NO new or special protection of the "Master and Commander" DVD...

If you've just recently purchased the DVD, return it for an exchange...

Perhaps there is a flaw with your copy. Does the original play all the way through with no problems....?

I have successfully backed up Master & Commander (Region 2) with no probs.

If it is a recently purchased copy consider exchanging it

Try reading the DVD's from your writer as opposed to your DVD-ROM.

If you are unable to backup DVDs you successfully have before, I'd first try running a lens cleaner and if you still get no joy then take it to the doctor.

Although nowadays with writers being so cheap, sometimes it's easier to just buy a new one....

"do u think dvd rw may at fault"

Sounds like the MOST likely probability...
