flash burning divx on to home dvd players, has anyone done it

My home dvd plays dvd vcd svcd and mp3's, I would love to add Divx, can it be done?

There is, at present, no way to burn a DivX-compressed .AV file to CD-R and play it directly on a standalone player.

Can you flash the divx codecs into the dvd chip, then no alteration would be necessary to the files.

If that were possible, I can assure you that it would have already been accomplished (Since there are many sites devoted to what can and cannot be accomplished in this manner)...

firmware upgrades are available from certain manufacturers

firmware upgrades are available from certain manufacturers for their machines. Is there any way to add Divx to existing firmware.
