I need help on homemade AVI files

Okay, first of all... I'm new here and I checked out this forum. Great job.

    So, here's my problem.

On some digital cameras, you can have the ability to take AVI video clips. Okay.....

Before, I can actually play my home made video clips on Real Player and Windows Media, but now, it doesn't work anymore. Recently, everytime I play my clips on Real Player or Windows Media Player, I would get a black screen (Real Player) or a green screen (Windows Media Player). The only thing that is working properly is the audio. However, if I were to play it on Quicktime *, it works perfectly.
I tried playing other AVI files and it works just fine for Real and Windows Media. It's just my homemade AVI files that doesn't work.

The reason why I want it to work properly because I want to edit my video clips on Windows Movie Maker. In order to do that, Windows Media Player must read these video clips. Before I can do them, but after this situation, I wasn't able to any video editing anymore.

    Can somebody help me?

    * FYI: It's an AVI file, NOT an MOV file. I made sure. Just in case, somebody asks about why it plays for Quicktime.

Sounds like you are lacking a specific video codec.

    1) Load the original video file into VirtualDub (or one of its many variants) or NanDub

    2) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "File Information"

    3) Post (here) EVERYTHING you see (BOTH video and audio information), or post a screen capture .jpg of the information box

Try downloading and installing the free Panasonic DV avi codec.

if your camera records in DV format,

download & install 'ffdshow' ('alpha' version) from http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffdshow

            1. click 'start', 'programs', 'ffdshow' and then 'configuration'

            2. click 'codecs' on the left side of the window

            3. under the 'format' column, look for 'DV'

            4. next to the word 'DV', it should have the word 'disabled'. click 'disabled, and select 'livabcodec' from the drop-down box.

this method allows me to work with my DV camera, hope it works for you also

Sounds like you 'lost' your codec or something similar.
Not sure if it's DirectX dependant but wouldn't hurt to update or check at least.
Failing that, are you XP? Try a System Restore?

Green screen is usually a sign of conflicting codecs. Have you installed a "codec pack" such as k-lite or somesuch lately?

Yeah, but this was AFTER I realized the problem. I installed a new codec pack to see if it would solve the problem, but it didn't.

Remember: It can't play my video clips, only other AVI files.

Follow the suggestion by "ziadost" and install the FFDShow filter/codec - AFTER you UNinstall the codec "pack"...

The fact that the "min/avg/max Key Frame Size" values in your attached screenshot are IDENTICAL might indicate there could be a problem with your file.

No - It's simply an UNcompressed 30 second .AVI file - so there are ONLY keyframes and no delta frames...

now that you have run it through virtualdubmod, we know it is DV material

once again, i urge you to try my method:

download & install 'ffdshow' ('alpha' version) from http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffdshow

                              1. click 'start', 'programs', 'ffdshow' and then 'configuration'

                              2. click 'codecs' on the left side of the window

                              3. under the 'format' column, look for 'DV'

                              4. next to the word 'DV', it should have the word 'disabled'. click 'disabled, and select 'livabcodec' from the drop-down box. click 'OK'

                              5. play the file
