    VOB to mpeg

    Hi there,

Thanks for all the help that people on this forum have given me. You have helped no end.

    Next question:

How do I convert a DVD that has been copied from VCR to DVD on a dual format player to a format that I can edit with Ulead studio 8?

My dad who has just come out of hospital has given me copies of our old holliday tapes to edit. He has copied them on to DVD but ulead wont recognise them. How do I convert them into mpeg etc? I have tried using TMPGEnc, in windows media player I have sound but not in Ulead.

    Can you help???

It has recorded them in standard VOB files. It has a VIDEO_TS folder, in that there are all the normall VIDEO_TS.IFO files etc and the VOB files.

When I convert them into either mpeg 1 or mpeg 2 format using Tmpegenc, windows media player 9 recognises them and plays them with sound. If I import them into Ulead it has no sound. The picture is fine but no sound.

So they start as VOB files, then convert to mpeg 1 or 2 but then I have sound on some programs and not others?????????

It appears that your ULead software is the source of your problem. If your intended editing will consist of nothing more than deleting some frames and creating chapters and menus, you might want to try using "TMPGEnc DVD Author" on the original DVD files (No "conversion" to MPEG).

You can obtain a FULLY functional, free 30 day trial version at:

        TMPGEnc,DVD Author,tmpg,mpg,mpeg,encoder,TMPG,tmpgenc,Pegasys,TSUNAMI,authoring,digital,video,DVD-Video,AVI,converter,convert,movie,movies

        Let us know of your success ;>}

The problem is that I want to edit, add music, titles etc.

Is there any other converting tool because I dont want to have to buy a new edditing suite.

AVI or ASF files are fine.

          HELP!!!!!

Its ok, I have solved the problem.

Ulead did not recognise the soundtrack because it was in Dolby.
So once I had downloaded the appropriate plug-in there are no problems.

Thanks once again for all your help
