Help! Copy/repair corrupted video of cd

Hi, yesterday i tried to copy an old avi of cd to hdd for conversion. Neither in Nero or Windows i was able to copy it completely to hdd. Nearly at the end (97%) it stucks because of an error reading that file. Is there any tool to repair or save this file and copy it to hdd?

Can you successfully "Play" the AVI file in a software-based player?

Dear ormonde,

yes its possible to play in PowerDVD and WMP but it can´t be imported in VirtualDub or VirtualDubMod or other editing toolz.

any ideas?

Use a repair utility called "AVIFixP" on the AVI. Try "Rebuilding" the index. Hopefully doing this will fix the file.

Hi ormonde,

after checking avi file stored on cd it log´s:

checking errors....
Done: Found 0 errors, 63701 video frames, 106186 audio samples


and i couldn´t find a way saving the backup on hdd. But nice program for corrupted downloaded avi files.

Perhaps it's an all too obvious question to ask but, did you try cleaning the CD?

Don´t know why this error is suppose to be there but i can give one recommendation straight away:

never burn video data with more then 6x speed!
this seems to be one part of that problem....the intense of burning is just not good enough for long time storage!

That MAY be valid, depending upon the quality of both your burner and the media.

I have recently successfully played .AVI CDs that were burned at 16X a couple of years ago...
