jaybee60s2: The PM limit rule is to prevent people coming on to the forum with no intention of posting anything meaningful, and going straight to messaging existing members with their questions. In most cases, their answer can be found by searching the forum, or posting a message and waiting for replies. The existing members are sick and tired of this types of users, and hence, the PM post limit was introduced. I think you'll find that most popular forums have this type of limit, or they disable PMs entirely. I have deleted your earlier bump posts, and reduced these posts from your post count total.

And cross posting (posting the same message in multiple places) is bad, and a lot of members will ignore posts if they see a duplicate somewhere else.

i use tmpgenc plus (not freeware) but you can get a trial version on their website. do a google search for "pegasys".

            others may suggest alternative programs....

Hey Colombo,I went ahead and let that dvd burn,it took14+hours to burn.

              My question is this?

Like I said I was burning four 20 minute clips that I have stored on my windows media audio/video files, three of those files were wmv files and they all played fine.

But the ASF file started recording but froze up about 5 min into recording, and I was wondering could this have been the reason it took so long to burn?

Basically,on the dvd I burned the three wmv files worked but the asf file froze up or was corrupted?

But it plays fine on my pc,could this cause the burn to take that long?

THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP SO FAR!!!!!!!!!!

some files nero don't like to encode, there could even be a problem with the file itself.

it took 14 hrs because it had to encode them to mpeg-2 first before it could burn them to disc. this time seems right to me for that pc you are using.

i don't know anyone who uses nero to do the encoding, normally it's done first ( a seperate operation). common tool for this as mentioned earlier is tmpenc. once you have your DVD compliant mpeg-2 files you would now load them into nero and burn. this would only take a matter of minutes (depending on your burn speed).

you'll see that nero does a lousy job encoding and has no flexibility compared to a program like TMPGENC.

If you are attempting to encode "WMV" files into compliant mpeg-1 or mpeg-2 for the purpose of "Authoring/Burning" to a DVD, try using "AVSVideoConverter". I've found that WMV files are more readily accepted than in "TMPGEnc".

Just wanted to let y'all know that I am VERY green when it comes to this computer stuff as far as terms and such, but I am learning

Now, this tmpenc. you'll have to give me a minute to understand this so hold on?

And I know kinda what encoding means but I don't know what its doing if you understand what im saying?

and the other file was a ASF file that stopped.

If, in fact, as you stated in your initial post to this thread, you are simply trying to test the ability of your BURNER to burn DVDs, why don't you simply purchase (if you don't already own one or more) a commercial DVD and use DVD Shrink (freeware) together with NERO (you already have this) to compress and burn a copy to a burnable DVD, instead of trying to deal with file formats that you admit you know nothing about?

as for the asf file, i have never had a problem converting to mpeg-1 or mpeg-2 with tmpgenc(although other programs can do it too.)never tried it with nero. if you want to burn these types of files never use nero to do any encoding, only to burn, life will be easier
