DVD Rs won't play on stand alone player

I bought a Philips 622 DVD stand alone player and it won't play copies made on DVD shrink. It is supposed to play both + and -
DVD Rs. What should I do short of returning it and buying another player? These movies play fine on my other machine, a Magnavox, which the store no longer sells. Thanks a lot.

It may simply be a problem of BRAND of burnable media incompatibility.

To determine the capabilities/limitations of your specific brand and model of standalone DVD player, as well as media compatibility, go to:

I have tried various movies which have used various brands of CDRs. None of them work. Some are copies I made, some were made by two different people using different brands of CDRs. That is not the problem, unfortunately.

sounds like your player is a first class piece of crap, i suggest you find the biggest hammer around and smash it to pieces.

the discs are obviously ok, get a new player, or just before you smash it you might try cleaning the laser.

          1) Did you purchase that new or used (That model is several years old)?

          2) Have you tried any of the following burnable DVD (NOT "CDRs", as you've repeatedly referred to) media, specifically listed at the site I provided)?:
