USA DVD burning laws

I'm going on a little trip to the states and wanted to bring some backups of my DVDs.

Is backing up your personal DVDs illegal in the US? I don't want to get harrassed at the border...

Of course the choice is yours but, you really should not be concerned. I travel into and out of the U.S. frequently - and always take a collection of burned DVDs with me.

"jm1647" was simply suggesting that, if need be, you should be aware of possible Region differences but, there are NO Region differences between Canada and the U.S.. They're both Region 1.

Once again, the answer to your question, "Is backing up your personal DVDs illegal in the U.S.", is NO. U.S. copyright laws permit the owner of any type of electronic media to make one personal backup, in order to safeguard the usability of the original...

As stated making a back-up of your personal dvd's is legal.
you state you are coming to the states and wanted to bring some of your back-ups with you. IMO I might be carefull about that one. With the mpaa and all they might try to get you for smuggling or some off the wall crap.
Is it possible you can bring your originals and leave your copies at home?

After reading the other post about the girl getting 20 years I wouldn't want to see the mpaa trying to do the same

only mentioned the region cause I didn't know where Jooce (almost said she) was from. Nice, there all region free or R1. I've done it also. VHS tapes and CD/DVD's...and copies of copyrighted articles too
