    AVI Cutting Problems

    Following this guide: http://www.divx-digest.com/articles/cutavi.html
I cut a file I had into 3 parts, and noticed that that audio and the video were out of snych, so I followed the second part of the guide on how to do it. The only problem is that when it says to subtract A from B to get the variable C for the final equasion, my A and B are the same (23.976 fps). So when I go to subtract them, I get 0, making it 0 at the end. What can I do in this situation? (Sorry if this is in the wrong place).

Welcome to the Digital Video Forums of Digital Digest!

    Try this:
Cutting with VirtualDub (or any of its variants)

1)Load your original (DivX-compressed or otherwise) .AVI into VirtualDub
    2) Set BOTH "Video" and "Audio" to "Direct Stream Copying"
    3) Move slider to the starting point of the scene you wish to delete
    4) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Go to next keyframe"
    5) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Set Selection Start"
    6) Move slider to the ending point of the scene you wish to delete
    7) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Go to next keyframe"
    8) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Set Selection End'
    9) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Delete frames"
    10) Save with a new filename

I did that, but my problem is that the audio and the video do not line up, I had no problem with the cutting, but when following that guide, I cann't subtract A from B because they are equal, making my final answer 0.

        1) Load the original .AVI video file into VirtualDub (or one of its many variants) or NanDub

        2) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "File Information"

        3) Post (here) EVERYTHING you see (BOTH video and audio information), or post a screen capture .jpg of the information box

Well, when I just re-opened the origional file, I got a VBR message (Picture Attatched), which might have something to do with it. I also took a pic of the Info (Picture Attatched). Need anything else?

As I suspected, Variable Bitrate ("VBR") .MP3 audiostreams. try the following:

Using VirtualDubMOD to Convert "VBR" .MP3 to Uncompressed .WAV

            1) Load the .AVI file into VirtualDubMOD (a different program than the standard VirtualDub)

            2) From the "Video" dropdown menu, select "Direct Stream Copy"

            3) From the "Streams" dropdown menu, select "Stream List" - and rightclick on the audio stream, then select "Full Processing Mode" - then click on "OK". Rightclick on the audiostream again, then select "Compression" and make certain it is set to "No compression (PCM)"

            4) Save with a new filename

Where do I get VirtualDubMOD? Will this also require me re-cutting the origional file?

                "Where do I get VirtualDubMOD?"

                Do a simple Googlesearch

"Will this also require me re-cutting the origional file?"

Yes - After performing the procedure for "Using VirtualDubMOD to Convert 'VBR' .MP3 to Uncompressed .WAV"

I wish I had success, I did what you said with the VirtualDubMOD, but still it has failed me and left me with audio faster than the video. I'm sad

I now see that the origional file itself is a little slow for the audio, is there a way to fix that also? Or is it the same as the other way?

AFTER you've changed the file to an .AVI with .WAV audio (but BEFORE cutting into pieces), then:

                            A) If the difference between audio and video is constant throughout the video:

Load the file into VirtualDub, VirtualDubMod, or NanDub.
Set BOTH "Video"(VirtualDub, VirtualDubMod and NanDub) and "Audio" (VirtualDub and NanDub - VirtualDubMOD>"Streams>"Stream list") to "Direct Stream Copy".
From the "Audio" dropdown menu, select "Interleaving" (For VirtualDubMOD, rightclick on the listed audiostream and then select "Interleaving")
Under "Audio skew correction", set an appropriate number of milleseconds (positive or negative) in the box labelled "Delay audio track by"
                            Save with a new filename

                            B) If the difference increases as the movie plays:

From under the "Video" dropdown menu, select "Framerate" - and select "Change so video and audio durations match"
                            Save with a new filename

                            Let us know of your success ;>}
