4x Burns Take Forever: From 15 Minutes Now An Hour

Something is not right. Up until yesterday a 4X DVD burn... using Shrink and Nero, would take about 15 minutes. Now it takes an hour.

While burning something seems to be eating up PC resources. Pages take forever to refresh.. yet Task Manager shows no rogue program eating up CPU or memory resources. I did some system benchmarks and the CPU and HD seem to be fine. Testing disks shows some odd speed changes. Two disks had sustained single PI failures.... the highest was 4. But this last disk is one of the best I've made.... only 137 PIFs on the entire disk (max 3) PIE max 97. But again big speed fluctuations.

I had the same problem after restarting the PC.

Is my burner going? Or is the problem elsewhere?

    Any theories?

    1) Are you using a demo version of NERO, that you've now been using for more than 30 days?

    2) Are you using different media than before?

        Thanks for the speedy response.

I'm using the version of Nero that came with my DVD burner. Media is the same.... Japanese made Fuji-R 8X.... but I always burn at 4X.

I haven't made any changes to the system for some time but it's worth a try. DMA is on.

Running a test at 1X the speed flucuations are gone... but PIFs are way up. 380 in just the first half of the disk while the 4X test had 137 for the entire disk. Go figure.

Once again I have to wonder what these tests mean... if anything.
