    3RD HD with DVD-RW?

I know this is probably a very basic question but I've never had a need for a third HD. My current config is 2 HDs & 2 DVD-RWs. If I install a 3rd HD on my secondary IDE channel, which drive should be master & which should be slave? Or can I use CS? I'm running XP Pro SP2.

    Thanks In Advance

I wouldn't use cable select. Also, it is best not to put a DVD RW on the same cable as a HD.

Have you got the two HD's on the primary IDE and DVD RW's on the second IDE?

If you have USB 2.0 or Firewire. I would do what I did and get a external HD or a external enclosure and a internal HD inside. I have a Maxtor 200GB inside a enclosure on USB 2.0.

Otherwise, I would replace your smallest HD with a bigger one (200GB at least).

Yes I do have 2 HDs on primary & 2 DVDRW on secondary. Can't afford a new HD right now i was just going to use the 3rd HD to put some MP3s on. I do have fiewire and USB 2.0. Where can you find a case for an internal HD?

If you Google "External Enclosures" you will find a lot.

I use a one that can take take a HDD and CD/DVD drive. I would also advise one with a fan as well.

How do you pick which DVD drive to use at the time? I have two as well but use my Pioneer 109 just for DL media.

Thanks jmet & nwg. I'll see what I can come up with. May have some questions later but thanks again.

The NEC is faster at ripping single layer DVD's. The Sony is better at ripping Dual Layer DVD's. When burning I just pick one based on whatever button I push to open it. lmao

You could also think about a PCI controller card that would allow you to add additional internal HDD's. I have a Maxtor SATA/150 PCI Card that I have put 2 160GB IDE drives on and still have room for SATA drives. I left my 2 DVD burners on the secondary IDE channel and have a 60 and 30 GB HDD on the primary. I had to use 2 power splitters cause I ran out of power plugs on my PSU. Everything works nice and the PSU is hanging in there too.

Thanks for the info jm1647. Can I use a Maxtor card with Western Digital HDs or will I have to have a card made from WD for my HDs?

Any IDE/SATA drive should work on them.
