Need help on the basics

I was wondering if anyone could point me to any tutorials or well written explanations on the structure of DVD format's. I've been using the normal programs to backup my collection, but I'd like to more fully understand what the hell I'm really doing. I'm trying to readup on the differet file types, vob, bup, ect. as much as possible but I haven't found anything really clear.

Any help would be appreciated as I hate not understanding how things work.

Thanks for the replies. Even ones with smart-ass undertones. Yes, I too Google'd this query and came up with many sites. But as we all know, too much information can be a waste of time if the information is written poorly. That is why I asked those with experience and specific knowledge to only point me in more clear direction.
