mpeg playback problems

When i try to play mpegs on my pc a black section takes up like 1/4th of the bottom of the screen. Does anyone know what this is or how to fix it?

what player are you using to play them, is there an error message, does it happen all mpegs, and how good is your hardware?
I used a encoder to change the formats on some of my more troublsome mpegs so maybe you should look into changing format. Also, where did you get the mpeg because it could be just garbage.

if you don't see the player in the background it is probably due to the resolution/aspect ratio of the video
