I personally have a DVD machine that decodes DTS so that is not a problem...my question is whether or not anyone sees a significant difference between the two 5.1 audio tracks. Obviously DTS takes more memory and when I am backing up a movie I must use more compression if I am going to keep both audio formats....what does everyone think and do? Do you keep only one?....or both? I believe DTS sounds better correct?

it really depends on your set-up, to someone like me it doesn't matter one bit.. why not experiment with an rw disc and try it both ways and see..."One day men will look back and say I gave birth to the 20th Century". Jack The Ripper - 1888
Columbo moments...

Out of curiousity, has it entered anyone's mind that a person's hearing ability could be a big factor. To some people, it may sound the same, even if coming from the same audio equipment. This is a subjective situation as like people who talk about video quality.
The only way to find out is to hear the audios yourself or get a big consensus from a big group of people listening to your audio setup.
My 2 cents.
EDIT: Ideally, you can opt to keep all if you get yourself a dual layer burner.Last edited by 2COOL; 23 Aug 2005, 03:48 AM.2CL C Henshin!

that link to that thread is very good indeed, very informative...Thanks!! I think I will use DTS since I can decode that on my dvd player...I cannot hear DTS on my computer but that is not where I watch my movies anyway.Comment

Sounds like you have a choice to make like all of us. DD is compressed and takes up less space on the media and DTS uses less compression which in turn takes more space on the media. DTS will usually yield more impact than DD, but it will also require a DTS player in oroder to output any sound. The way I takled this issue is if I backup a movie that I know has a great sound track in DTS, I will make two copies one in DTS and one in DD.Comment

Gotta agree. Love DTS. It's worth keeping, even if you have to downgrade the video quality a bit.
