    Problem: PLEASE HELP!

I use a Sony DRU-710A to burn DVD-Rs. I haven't had any problems within the past 9 months. The other day, I burned a disc for a friend on a DVD+R and it worked out fine. Today, however, I went to make a copy of "Layer Cake" and my burner errored out three times (unfort, I could not secure a log of the errors because it just crashed). I updated my Windows, Nero (which I use to burn), and the driver for the DRU but my buffer level for the drive does not get above 13%. Can anybody please help me?

Cynthia, DMA settings are 100% kosher. I'm wondering if the movie is just kinda fickle (I used DVD Shrink and DVD 43 to rip it).

Have you tried to burn another disc with another movie?

Not yet, think I should? I thought maybe I should try rolling back the driver for the burner.

Type of disks used (Media ID, not brand)? Firmware OK?

What speed are you burning at, max? Post your nero log it should be in C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero... neroHistory.Log even if you did not save it.

I updated everything before I tried again. My DVD-Rs have been fine in the past but now, obviously, I'm having problems. Do you think it could be because the last successful burn I had was with a DVD+R? Here is the log.... [NOTE: I ran a simulation instead of wasting another disc.]

Try lowering the speed to 4x. I realse it's only a simulation.

There's a firmware update for this drive BYX4 - see here.

You might like to unload the Prassi Veritas driver and the aspi32.sys (since Nero uses it's own aspi). Strange that atapi is listed as a potential conflict.

You might want to swap your master / slave positions on your secondary. The SONY might perform better as a master.

I lowered the speed, updated the firmware again, and tried another movie and it seemed fine. Switched back to "Layer Cake" and it failed again, but it went along fairly well. Here's the latest log.
