dual layer dvd's are so easy to scratch, whats the point of having a dual layer dvd or player, i think sooner or later their will be a 9 gig single sided dvd+r very soon I really dont see the big deal I mean I seen 25 dual layer dvd pack for like $70 to $100 dollors high quality dvd's for sale, the point is why bother buying dual layer dvd's since most dvd players ps2 are having a hard time playing and a dual layer dvd will cause you to be extra care full because of scratch on both sides

DVD RAM is like a real big floppy disk - it has random access memory (hence its name). It writes to random locations on the disk, not sequentially as is required for a regular DVD video.

You don't "scratch both sides" on a DL disk - there are actually 2 layers of information on the same side of the disk. The other side of the disk contains no data.

DVD RAM is perhaps not that big in the US but it is big in Europe (particularly in the UK). It is the biggest DVD format in Japan.

I myself have been using DVD RAM for two years using Panasonic TV DVD Recorders. I have also started burning DL+R at £2 each. For an exact backup off the original they are worth the £2.
