I really don't think it is unless you call Teac is liar. Here's their official line-up in 1998. Your model falls under CD-ROM Drives, not CD ROM Recordable Disk Drives.

It's not even a DVD reader. Never was, never will.

The 'fun' thing with Windows XP was that the drivers was not compatible with old Windows versions. Suddenly you had a lot of modems, printers and sound cards that could not be used in Windows XP due to the lack of drivers.

Windows 2000 did not have that same problem with old equipment.
