I have some video clips that are very dark. Recorded in ASF. I cannot find a program that will lighten them to a reasonable level. They just become whitened but if I play them in windows media player, with slight tweeking of brightness and contrast, they become viewable not great but acceptable. If I convert them to another format then media player will not make an improvement. your help would be appreciated

download & install 'virtualdub 1.3c', use it in 'direct stream copy' mode to place the video into an 'avi' container (no encoding done, so should be very quick).
then download & install 'virtualdubmod', and encode. use its 'brightness/contrast' and/or 'HSV adjust' filters to permanently brighten the video to your liking.
post if you need more instructions -
may have to change preferences in vdub 1.3c to "show file extensions" or something like that, that's how mine was..."One day men will look back and say I gave birth to the 20th Century". Jack The Ripper - 1888
