Best way to convert DVD to WMV

I have lots of DVDs I need to encode into WMV files, and I'm looking for a simple solution to this problem.

    What I currently do:

    1) Rip the DVD to vob files
    2) Use dvd2avi to create .d2v and .wav files
    3) Use tmpgenc to create a project file combining both video and audio
    4) Use VFAPI to create a frameserving .avi file
    5) Use Microsoft's command-line windows media encoding utility on the frameserving .avi file

    Problems with this approach

    1) It's got a lot of steps, and
    2) Ripping the DVD is tricky -- I've got to hand-pick the right chapters to make sure everything is in the right order and (most difficult) the audio is synced up

Does anyone know of another approach, say commercial software that will do all this in one go? These DVDs are not copy protected, so that should help.

Alternatively, does someone have the technical expertise to write software to do this? I'm willing to pay for a solution.

    Thanks!

are you intent on converting to wmv only? mpeg-4 codecs, such as xvid, compress much better, so you'll get much higher quality at the same file size. and it can all be done with freeware

    there's a simple guide here http://www.divx-digest.com/articles/...rdianknot.html

but if you really want to use wmv, try here http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=34111
