Region restrictions

I'm planning on traveling from the U.S. to New Zealand to visit some family. I wanted to bring some of my backedup movies and my laptop for the VERY long flight. But I also wanted to bring a couple of movies for my younger cousin to watch, he loves Disney movies.

Once I've backed up a movie like "Robots" through DVDdecrypter & DVDshrink, will that movie be able to be played on a dvd player in New Zealand? I thought the backups were region free once decrypted but will a native dvd player to New Zealand still be able to play it? I will be bring the laptop but it does not have a video out, so I can't display it on thier tv.

Most likely, yes. NZ is on the PAL system but most players and TVs out in this part of the world can play NTSC.

Ask your cousin's parents to check if their system is OK.

Depends on what video format it is in. If "New Zealand" used "NTSC" video format, then yes it should play.

If it used "PAL" video format, then no it won't. (Well it will I think, but in unwatchable video quality.)

So I should ask if their dvd player is NTSC or PAL format? And if it is PAL format, no dice.

Is there a sw that can convert NTSC to PAL format?
