DVD not ripping at proper speed!

I've ripped a lot of DVDs and they usually rip at not less than 5x speed (I have a 16x DVD player). But lately they won't rip at a speed greater than 1.1x. I have checked and it seems as though everything is set for DMA, I have defragged my hd and it doesn't matter which ripping program I use. I can't figure out why it is doing this. Any help would be great!

Is DMA set for both your DVD and HDD ?
