got latest directx? latest graphics card drivers?

if so, my guess is that some other application is utilizing the hardware acceleration capabilities of your graphics card, and videos cannot be displayed in 'overlay mode'. in that case, play your videos with 'media player classic', in 'vmr7' or 'vmr9' mode. it should work.

but the recommended method is to find out which application is causing this. do you have any 'desktop enhancing' programs such as 'destopx', 'konfabulator', 'windowblinds', etc? they can easily cause this...
