          its a zip file. use winzip or winrar to extract the files. then double-click 'virtualdub.exe'

                  OK I have open up my avi file with it, click 'file', 'save image sequence'. for output format, got.... bmp. added a prefix, and a directory, then I clicked OK..

                      now you need to decide how many of those frames you need. to keep the file size reasonable, it'd have to be few.

                      now comes the time-consuming and difficult part mentioned earlier. you need to use image editing software (i use photoshop) to make the background (ie everything but the 'man') transperant by 'erasing' it. once you've done that, resize each frame & input into an image editing software that will create gif images (again, i use photoshop/imageready)...

                              if you have photoshop/imageready, it can create an animated GIF from those frames easily. if you don't, you could try this freeware program, though i've never used it.
