Trouble with data dvd reading

I apologize if this is off topic. I've tried to make a dvd+r data disc to transfer files (video/wavs, etc) from one computer to another. The dvd burns fine, shows up fine on the old computer, yet when I put it in the dvd burner of the new computer, it reads it as a blank disc.

Any ideas?

what is the make and model # of the problem burner?

it's an NEC 3550A dual layer burner.
It will read data cd's, but not data dvd's.
It WILL back up movie DVD's however just fine.
