"Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'dvsd' (unknown)...."

Whenever I try to open Dv files in virtual dub I get the following message "Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'dvsd' (unknown)...." It opens normal AVI files OK but not anything I capture with my Pyro Basic DV Fire Wire. If I convert the files to normal AVi's through Premiere, they open but it takes a lot of time converting them twice.....is there another way?

    Thanks a million!

VD needs Video for Windows codec in place.

Pinnacle Studio 7 installs this codec at installation. Or check your capture software to see if it has a "Use Windows DV" (or sim) option.

I just ran into this. VD was working fine after I installed Studio 7, then I updated Vegas Video and it stopped working. So I reinstalled 7 and all is fine.

I guess the system runs the latest installed codec. Somewhere I've seen a regedit you can use to switch codecs.
