    gtm4 codec?

I have some video clips from a medical source which I need to encode in DivX format. GSpot Codec Information Applicance tells me the following:

    Video:
    Codec: 4CC gtm4
    Name <unknown>
    Stat: Codec NOT Installed!

DirectShow partially succeeded to play file...
0x00040242: VFW_S_PARTIAL_RENDER - some of the streams in this movie are in an unsupported format

When I try to encode these files, the encode fails. The odd thing is that I am able to play these videos with Windows Media Player or whatever under WinXp and Win2000. I have googled gtm4 and come up with nothing.

    1. What on earth is it? 2. How can I get it to re-encode into something more useable (I need to produce clips from a much lengthier video)?

Any help or a pointer to a more appropriate forum is much appreciated.

Uninstall all divx/xvid and other codecs which you might have installed from downloaded codec packs. Reboot and install only the xvid codec from here

XviD only handles the fourCC's XVID, DX50, DIVX and mp4v. I suppose it is possible that "gtm4" is MPEG-4 and changing the fourCC would work.
