Corrupted video in all players (Media Player 9, PowerDVD, Winamp)

My system is an Athlon 64 3000, Geforce 5200, 512mb RAM with a fresh installation of WIN XP. All video types are afftected, they all appear super "contrasty", super saturated and grainy. They look this way in every player. I know the videos are OK, because I have watched them on another PC without problems. Even DVDs are affected.

    Help!!

Found a solution on another board. Here is the fix in case any keys in on this thread from a search engine:

You need to go to the Nvidia display propperties, go to "color correction", choose "all" under the "apply color changes to" dropdown, and apply the settings. This works for the most of the gerforce series drivers! Hope this helps anyone that has this issue.

This solution worked for me as well.

In Color Management, NVIDIA, by default, applies color corrections to Desktop only and not overlays.

Of course overlays are used by DVD's, so if color correction isn't applied to those, they appear wrong, and the picture can be washed out, grainy, too bright, etc. For some reason, Intervideo's WinDVD corrects this, as does WMP. However, neither looks as good without overlays included in color correction.

Here's the same solution, more detailed for those who aren't computer savvy:

        1) Right click on the desktop and choose "Properties".
        2) Click on the "Settings" tab, then the "Advanced" button, then on the tab associated with your video card (ex: Geforce FX 5200),
        3) When the popup (usually on the left side) appears, choose "Color Correction".
        4) On the tab display, on the left, under "Apply color changes to:", change the dropdown menu from "Desktop" (or "Overlay") to "All".
        5) Now click on "Apply", then on "OK", then when the main properties window appears, on "OK" again.
        6) Close and restart PowerDVD, and the picture should be fine.

Ignore the following: it's for the search engines, so that others with this problem can find this thread faster than I did:

PowerDVD WinDVD picture video DVD washy "washed out" "too bright" bright contrast high blurred blurry blur movie snowy grainy faded dull

LOL! That is a lot to search for! It would almost be easier to go to AskJeeves and type in in there in question form. LMAO to those search terms.

The idea wasn't to have the user search for all of those. The purpose is so that a user using enough of those search terms will find this thread somewhere close to the top of the search engine list.
