Trouble opening perhaps a corrupted mpeg2

i have this captured mpeg2 on my pc for some time, i wanted to edit and burn it, but none of my tools opening the video.

videostudio, pnnacle studio, power director, tmpgenc express all open file for just 7 mins, though actual length is 50 mins

only way to see the video is by powerdvd, media player dont open it and hungs, so does mainconcept encoder.

so far max i can open/save was with tmpgenc mpegtools, that let me de-multiplex 30 mins of video then finishes.
Seems like as soon you buy somehing, v. 2 comes out 1.5 times as fast!..!

tried with virtualdub mod and it opens just 3 mins, no error msg

tried tmpgenc dvd author and it gave me this error

never meant for compliant mpeg2 so skip its bitrate is high, i captured it for max quality for later editing and burning, was fine couple of months back.i have made a dvd out of it, but i wanted to do it agin and now this.

try running it through 'videoredo'. one of the best DV programs ever IMO, total godsend (i make ~10 hd/sd captures each day). it has a fully functional 15-day trial. use its 'quickstream fix' function

now this is way too strange.......... and i think thats what happened....
few months back i had a harddisk crash, iv recovered my files but didnt check, now it seems this file is mixed with another file. means this one file is actually 2 seperate video files.

nero vision4 saved a file but the few minuts are corect after that whole new video file and then at end few mins of actual file, no wonder none of my tools opeing it

videoredo as anonymez said saved now that file still got errors i guess but the saved file is the correct one, but its again hungs at end.

is there any way i can seperate both these files, or atleast save one and forget other.

          hope its not too confusing

this happened to me once. i had a hard disk crash, on a hard disk that contained only videos. when i clicked on a movie, i would get say 1/3 another movie, 1/6 of another, etc. this happened with around 1/2 of my files on that hard disk.

after doing long tests & fixing any errors on the hard disk, i got it back to perfect working condition. i then quickly played every file on that hard disk, one after the other (just checked beginning, middle & end of the files), deleting all that showed problems.

sorry atfish, the files are permanently corrupt, unlikley you will be able to 'walk away' with anything more than crumbs.

                you're welcome, atfish

curious, what was the cause of the hard disk crashing, and the extent of the damage? in any case, be glad you got off easy

mine was hit with a power surge, data was completely massacred. tried everything i could think of to recover the files. other than 30-sec segments in 40-min video, no go

a little extra advice-- find other files that you recovered, check to see if they work
