    why do DVDs look better on TVs, but not on computer monitors?
    In this case, my office monitor, which cost is a $2500 20" 4:3 CRT monitor)
    If I take the S-video out from the back of my computer and plug it into
    a regular 20" CRT TV(a $150 no-name unit from WalMart), it looks a lot better.

    It probably has to do with the brightness and contrast controls on your monitor. Is it set to factory settings, or did you mess with the settings? I know that happened to my monitor, but resetting to factory settings made it look better.
