Why do some DVDs have empty "AUDIO_TS" folders?

Why do some DVDs have empty "AUDIO_TS" folders?

    Isn't it kind of pointless?

    Thanks!

The AUDIO_TS folder is there for compatibility reason. Some of older DVD players have the problem playing DVDs without the empty AUDIO_TS in them. AFAIK, the AUDIO_TS folder stores the high resolution audio of DVD Audio

There are a lot of new DVDs that do not even have the AUDIO_TS folder. At least Nero (being so bad and all ) has the AUDIO_TS folder for compatibility issues

Yes, it is used for DVD Audio discs. Some DVD Audio discs have video content so, they have data in both the video and audio_ts folders.

Some older DVD's do not have a audio_ts.

nwg is correct. The AUDIO_TS folder is for audio dvd's. As for the audio_ts folder making a video dvd more compatible I can't say for sure.

Both are neeeded to adhere to the proper DVD specs. There was a time many years ago that a few players didn't like it when the audio_ts folder was missing. It didn't stop the DVD producers from leaving it out as more players were fine with no audio_ts folder.

I have a few DVD's from 1999 with just a video_ts folder and they have always played fine.

Many DVDs these days do NOT have an AUDIO_TS folder, including those made in PgcEdit and then made into an ISO.
