I think 16:0 of course.. also becasue the subtitles in the lower-black part of the movie, and not on it.

Indeed, I like 16x9 also. My little sister is foolish enough to like fullscreen better, but when I buy her DVDs as gifts I always get the widescreen and say something like "beggars can't be choosers"

16x9 preserves the way the film was shot in theaters, and there was even a page from StarWars.com about this - I will upload it later, as it is not there anymore. Pretty interesting.

Well it died, DVD didn't. I think that says something. But then they are trying to make sure that the next gen formats are about as restrictive. When will they learn that we as consumers don't want to pay for something just to have them dictate what we can do with it?

Nonetheless, why would you want DivX unless you don't have a DVD burner? DivX has to be compressed, thus, loss of quality.

I am sure that we would all agree that widescreen is the prevailing format, you can even prove it by going to Amazon.com and going to the top 100 DVD sales - widescreen movies are always better selling than fullscreen.

DIVX used MPEG-2, same as DVD. You are confusing DivX with DIVX. Two completely different things. Besides MPEG-2 is a lossy compression, so there is still a loss of quality. Now if we were talking about buying DivX movies, then presumbably they would be encoded from some kind of high quality source, not DVD. So raw source-->MPEG-2 vs. raw source-->MPEG-4. Basically the same thing, although APS MPEG-4 should be able to hit the same quality at a lower bitrate.

I can't stand full frame. The only way to see the whole movie is widescreen format. Too much is lost in pan and scan.

wow. i never knew how much of the movie gets cut on in fullscreen, im never buying another fullscreen DVD again. that article is very good too a must read! i just still cant get over how much of the movie you actually lose!
