Actually, my answer is NEITHER. My preferred aspect ratio is WHATEVER THE MOVIE WAS INTENDED TO BE SEEN IN. So if it's 2.35, 1.78 or 1.33 to 1 it doesn't matter. For example: Eyes Wide Shut was filmed in 1.33 to 1 and is intended to be seen that way. So are a lot of IMAX films. In the case of 'A Bug's Life', it can be enjoyed two ways, both 'correct', as the 1.33:1 was recomposed. In movies that were shot in Super 35, I prefer the 1:33 to one, as all of the visual elements are preserved.

Yes, same with Finding Nemo. But MOST movies are widescreen, with the exception of 1930s and before, which I never watch anyway. So 99% of the time, I use widescreen. Not very many movies are actually restored for fullscreen, see that Star Wars link to see what I mean

I think you'll find, drf, that FS prevailed way later than the 1930s. We are not all that old.

I read that quite some time ago and agree that it is an excellent article. Everyone that watches movies at home should read this. Well worth the read.
