is that normal? the vob is much brighter than the avi... i have to actually go into my graphics/video card options to up the brightness so it makes the .avi brighter... any idea how i can keep the original brightness when converting? i'm using ImTOO DVD Ripper 4.
vob to avi... (avi darker than vob)

The brightness shouldn't change unless you change colourspaces or do some kind of filtering that effects it (tweak, levels, etc.).
Guess it is possible for a codec itself to effect brightness, but XviD, DivX, x264, etc. don't and since they all use YV12, same as DVD, no colourspace conversions are required for encoding. -

The point is that if you do nothing, the brightness should be the same. You shouldn't need to be changing things.
Perhaps try another app. Like AutoGK, FairUse Wizard, AVI.NET or StaxRip.Comment
