seeking advise on a video editing app

I need an application to edit a few hours of digital video that I shot on my camera. What I want to do is splice some video together, maybe chop off some beginning or endings. I'm looking for something cheap and "entry level" - as I am completely nonprofessional. Does anyone have a recommendation?
    Thanks in advance -

Look at how I am converting people to using UVS (benbryant for example)

Maybe they all used it before, but it seems that it was never mentioned til I started reccomending it up and down.

Yes drf, I started using UVS version 7 four or five years ago. Now I use Sony Vegas 6 instead

Ulead video studio is my 1st choice. Womble mpeg video wizard is another excellent program. I saw earlier today that womble released mpeg video wizard dvd. will have to try it. looks like it has some added features such as supporting ac3 audio etc.

                  Ulead is my only choice

I got the retail one now, so I'm good to go!
