    Multiplexing DIVX AVI + DD5.1 AC3

    Hi !

Since some days I'm working on a solution to create a good quality DIVX AVI together with the uncompressed AC3 (DD5.1)stream. I found, that I have to use FlaskMpeg to convert my video stream to DIVX 4.0 and to keep the AC3 stream as it is (direct stream copy). At the end you get two files; one AVI and one AC3 file. Then you must multiplex this with nandub to only one AVI. I tried this with a little 10 minute AVI and the corresponding AC3 and it works (I'm using BSplaver to playback in DD5.1 - SPDIF out only). My problem is, that I have done the same with a complete movie (1:58 movie with AC3 stream creates me a 1,18 GB AVI file); BUT my BSplayer didn't play in DD5.1 ((
Has anyone an idea why this procedure works only with size limited AVI and AC3 streams ? Is there any size limit ?

    Thanks in advance,
    Klaus

multiplexing & playback of avi with ac3 & dts

      Hello here is your answer.
1 Use dvdx to create your avi with audio set to export ac3.This will create an avi with no sound and ac3 in a separate file.
2 use smart ripper to extract the dts sound track .I use ver 2.41 .you will find the dts track on the stream processing tab.It will say sdds this is the dts track then select demux to extra file.
3 use VirtualDubMod version 1.5.4.0 to multiplex the 2 files together
Just select direct stream copy in video tab.then streams & stream list to select the ac3 or dts track. then just hit f7 to save the file.
4 paste & register these 3 files to your system32 folder.
      iviaudio.ax ver 3.1.58.5 intervideo decoder
      avi2ac3filter.ax ver 1.0.0.0 AVI <-> AC3/DTS Converter by gabest
      avi2ac3dts.ax
To do this at the dos prompt type
      cd c:\ enter
      cd windows enter
      cd system32 enter
      Then type regsvr32 iviaudio.ax enter
      regsvr32 avi2ac3filter.ax enter
      regsvr32 avi2ac3dts.ax enter
after each one you should get the message dllregisterserver in "filename" succeed.
5 install win dvd & run a dvd to set audio to spdif
6 optional you can install power dvd but win dvd must be on your system aswell.
7 set your sound card to spdif and disable ac3 procesing.
And thats all you should now have an avi with ac3 or dts sent to your external digital amplifier
Note if you want the sound to play through your stereo sound blasters
      use iviaudio.ax ver 6.0.6.56

Forgive this question. But as a newbie, I get to ask a few dumb ones so I can learn. In reading the above post, I am lost in the first sentence LOL.

My question is, what application or for what use are these files used once you go through this process.

I know the question is stupid but not knowing about these things I can't even begin to grasp what it is you would be working on to do those things.

I'm so lost, I don't even know how to ask the question .. (smile) I hope you understand what I'm trying to ask. I read many posts like this that are very deep in technical information. I thought if I understood the reason. I might understand the product. Is this for a movie or web design application. Its frustrating starting from square one ... sorry.

        thanks,
        dcp

          activex files

These files must be on your system in order to send the digital to spdif. ie digital out to an external surround amplifier. After the video stream is split the video will go to the video decoder ie divx decoder.the audio has an unrecognizable tag when it is multiplexed with an avi so your system or player will not know where to send the sound track or even what format it is for that matter. These files will will be active on your system therefore the digital audio will have a logical path to follow avi2ac3dts.ax & avi2ac3filter.ax "xform filter" These files will paraise the sound track and pass the digital to the intervideo decoder iviaudio.ax. You must set the audio out to spdif in win dvd (must be on your system) even if you choose a diferent player. You must also set the other player of your choice to send the audio to spdif. And disable ac3 processing in your sound card properties.

You must register these files to your registry!
with the dos prompt you will find in accessories in your start menu.
          just type these commands in

          cd c:\ [enter]
          cd windows [enter]
          cd system32 [enter]
          Then type regsvr32 iviaudio.ax [enter]
          regsvr32 avi2ac3filter.ax [enter]
          regsvr32 avi2ac3dts.ax [enter]
after each one you should get the message dllregisterserver in "filename" succeed.

This sounds like a whole lot of hassle to go thru to simply mux together an .avi and .ac3. Unless I'm missing something, it seems to me that all you need is Muxman Browse to the .avi and the .ac3 and Process it, you'll end up with a DVD compliant project ready to burn to a disc.

              not just how to mux

Sorry you have missed the purpose of the exersise.
If you just want to just mux together avi with ac3 or dts I suggested to use
VirtualDubMod version 1.5.4.0 It works like a charm quick and easy
however if you want to send the digital to your external amplifier you will need to add these files as I explained.Or else you will get silence!!
Its not hard it takes about 1 min to register the files If you can type.
or course there is an ac3 filter from sourceforge "ac3filter_1_01a_rc5" that will allow you to send the ac3 to the spdif out put .I have used this filter and it works well. How ever it will not help when you have an avi that is muxed with DTS. To do this you must use these files to pass on the digital to your external amp. Or use use these files with version 6.0.6.56 of iviaudio.ax
to hear both ac3 & dts through your stereo sound blaster spks.

And I think you missed the point of the original question. boatman never asked anything about DTS.

True however if you are going to give advice you might as well encompass every thing or else that will eventually be his next question.

Agreed, but my advice to use MuxMan will work with up to 4 channels of DD and/or DTS streams, and is very easy to use

A blind man could use virtualdub but I will try this prog you suggest out of curiosity.
I found some programs are only usefull for muxing short clips!
like AVIMux_GUI then I found virtualdub mod and have stuck with it since.

I agree that virtualdub is outstanding software, I've been a big fan for a long time. In fact I've got 3 versions on my system, virtualdub v1.6.10, virtualdubmod v1.5.10.2 and virtualdub-MPEG2 v1.6.10

I have a question for you taelon.I like to use power dvd 4 to view my avi's with ac3 & dts and dvd's up till now I could only use ver 4.0 .ver 5.0 & 6.0 just gave me a buzzzing noise.what I did was to remove the audio filter folder from power dvd 6.0 to alow the filters on my system to do there job this worked well.but of course now no sound in dvd's.Do you know what filters I could use on my system to pickup the audio from the dvd's? Also all of this exersise is to determine if powerdvd 6.0 will give me a better picture than ver 4.0.

Taelon I just descovered the answer to the question I posed to you. To play my avi's muxed with ac3/dts using power dvd ver 6.0 I just removed claudfx.ax from the audiofilter folder. it was giving nothing but a buzzzing noise with my avi's. when playing a dvd this activex audio effects filter gives the option of some dsp effects.when spdif is selected audio presets are not shown. It appears this filter does not recognize the digital sound track in the avi's so it kicks in giving this screeching buzzing noise.

I think WinDVD and PowerDVD both removed DTS decoding because of licensing issues or something. I don't have any problems with DD 5.1 with PowerDVD 5 but I never even bother with DTS myself since I have no standalone decoder.
