Compressing movies

I have a new sony handycam and was hoping to send the "Survivor" show to my wife who is stationed for a year in Korea. The problem is I dont know how to make the movie fot into email ( or if it is possible). I know I have downloaded zip files that were bigger than the current one ( 550mb) that I am having no luck trying to send. The computer I have has pretty much everything and has 200mb hard drive and 1024mb ram. Any help would be much appreciated.

You can try using "You Send It". It's a free file delivery service (up to 1gig allowed). Just zip it and upload it (uploading will take awhile, especially large files). When you're done, make sure you save the link so your wife can download it.
