xvid make a me crazy... help?

Ive downloaded alot of movies recently and they seem to be in avi format though some of the titles say xvid. But I cant seem to play these ones and wondering if its just corrupt files or huh?
Ive downloaded xvid codec and various avi players but I cant get them to play. Any suggestions?

get rid of all codecs and packs, install ffdshow

if it still fails post the file info from gspot or virtualdubmod
