TV chops off stuff?

They do get cut off. Everything you have ever seen on that TV has had the edges cut off.

Pad the edges with a black border. That way the border gets cut off. As a test you could create a DVD with say a green 16pixel border with a blue centre. See how much of the green is shown on the TV or better yet 8 pixel red, then green then blue. You probably won't see the red at all.

Right, but then on the computer, you will have a border. Is there a way to tell the computer to zoom in on that?

And how would I add a black border? One problem is that it's a PAL AVI, so I used DivX2DVD to make it NTSC. Any other ways to do this but add a border?

I tried some more programs with no luck. Can someone help me? Is there a way to add a border that doesn't show up on the PC?

What I don't get is, on Hollywood movies, nothing is cut off, but there is no borders.

In Canada we have the Showcase channel. It's logo is "Television without borders".

Adding borders requires re-encoding, since you are changing the actual video.

Have a closer look at Hollywood movies. Pick an object at the edge of your screen and compare it; TV vs. PC monitor.

And, if I add black borders, could I tell the computer to crop those? Somehow AGK did, as the presentation prog made black borders.

Look at my picture in the link. The TV shows a DVD. The projector which is the same output as the monitor is playing through my computer. It shows the same DVD without overscan. Ignore the difference in colour (I was using the wrong colour profile in PowerDVD).

This is just a random thought. Can you check to see what the DVD players are set to? You need it to be 4:3 Letterbox and not 4:3 pan and scan. It is probably nothing to do with it.

It is 4x3 letterbox. They comprise of two Panasonic and my portable Samsung.

Is this the powerpoint presentation? I suppose it would be a pain to redo it and make sure any important bits are not at the edges so they get cut off?

Well, my mom did that, but you see, PPT2DVD is weird and changed the time on me. So the audio isn't synced now.

I just had this great idea. I am thinking, somehow I would make every frame into a BMP. I would then add a border around the text that gets chopped off, (100 frames per title slide, about 10 of those). I would then use VDub to put back together. Then, the pictures would still be cut off, but you would not get a border on the computer (you don't lose much). And the text, would not be cut off, just have a white border. On the computer, it looks normal.

My question: How do you save an AVI file, each frame as a BMP?

Save avi as bmp's, load bmp's into VDub? That makes no sense when you can just load the avi directly. VirtualDub can add a white border just as easily as a black one. If you mean only add the border to some frames, it could do that to, but you would need to cut it first. AVISynth can add a white border to whatever frames you like. You need to either shrink, then fill to the original resolution or upsize the parts that don't get a border though since you can't join different resolution pieces.

If you want to edit bmp's though, VirtualDub can save out an image sequence.

Hmmmm. How would you add a border with VDub? Say I was only doing that for 10 different parts. What would I do, isolate them, and lower the resolution? Wouldn't that cause errors when appending?
