hope this is the appropriate location for this question...
I am wondering about all of the kinds of extraneous information that may or may not be contained in a video and/or music file? Things that might be considerded legitimate (like title, artist info, creation date, etc.) as well as potentially malicious data (like scripts, etc.). I don't know much about the actual details of formats like avi,mpg,mp3, etc. but I imagine that there is a large variety of meta info, tags, headers, footers etc. that can be part of a file, essentially everything but the compressed video/audio data itself.
1) Can anyone point me to a good resource for learning about this?
2) Are there tools available for detecting and/or removing this extraneous data?
thanks in advance!
