Copied DVD Freezes Towards End

Lately I've been having this problem. When watching successfully copied DVDs, on some of them near the end of the movie the DVD freezes. This freezing problem at first occurs for only a few seconds but then re-occurs in greater time lengths until a certain picture will completely freeze. This only seems to happen towards the end of the DVDs. It doesn't seem to be a problem with my DVD player since this happens on other DVD players in which I've inserted the disks.

Could it be a problem with the DVD itself (these are 16X DVD-Rs), the DVD recorder (which is only a few months old and seems to work well), or the copy programs (DVD Shrink and Nero)?

Usually these problems are due to a bad burn.

Can you give more details? What burner do you have exactly? What firmware? What media do you used (16x is too generic)? And what speed you burned?

bad media or wrong burn speed or wrong media type can all cause your skip and freeze problem.

Usually means you have cheap media. Buy Verbatims or Taiyo Yudens. Read and implement the Golden Rules of Burning.

If you must use cheap media, when you copy the DVD, use DVD Shrink to lower the size - use 4300Mb as custom size.

This might also be caused if you are placing sticky labels on your discs. The problems only towards the end of the discs are a common symptom of sticky labels. Just thought I'd add that just in case your putting those labels on them. It would be detrimental to combine those labels to bad media as well.

To answer all of your questions, the DVD RW is a Sony DVD RW DW-Q30A, the DVDs I used were TDK DVD-R 16X, I didn't attach any labels to the DVDs, and I burned using the 16X rate.

I'll first try again using a 4X speed since that might be an easy fix. If that doesn't work then I'll be sure to get Verbatims or Taiyo Yudens. I hadn't realized that there is such a significant difference in media quality.

Certainly lower the burn rate. That is super fast.

What's your media ID code - TDK brand is quite variable in quality. Only the MID Code matters.

Hey there,
I had the same problem with skipping and freezing. Since I switched to DVDshrink and lowered my burn speed to 4x from 8x, I have not had this problem again even with sticky lables.
