    video capture info/help required please

Hi there i was wondering if a kind soul could give me some assistance, im looking to setup a security system on m8`s comp in his shop, i have put in a cheapo capture card(aver media) and i need a codec which will let me capture a small size, i dunno 320-240, but file size has to be small as possible, i have to get 48 hours on a 20 gig hdisk. any ideas? the picture have to be surveillance video quality, im basically gonna capture 1 wks worth of video, and back it up if required, otherwise delete it and start over the next week.

or is there a piece of software which will only capture video once every 5 secs for a set period of time. a basic time lapse recording software.

    any help appreciated

You can use VirtualDUB and use a MPEG4-codec like DivX. For full quality you would need a very fast cpu, but most versions of DivX have the option to encode with lower cpu-power but also lower picture-quality. 48h on 20gb will result in a bitrate of 900 or lower.

With VD you can also reduce the framerate to nearly any value u need. On my version/capture-card I get an error if i set the framerate lower than 0.5 fps. But DivX with a bitrate of 900kbps with one frame every 2 seconds would give superior quality and should work even on an old 200MHz-cpu. It should also work with higher resolutions like 640x480 or more.
