    Audio Problems Need help

I have just started getting errors that indicate that I have an audio error.(seems to involving MIDI file playing) I cannot play certain pc games that use the midi audio.
I have tried fixing the problem myself but I have no idea what hardware was installed on the pc and the directions on how to troubleshoot seemed to have lost me.
In the properties they are all saying working fine, but they will not play any midi file.,
If anyone is willing to help me through this step by step that would be wonderful!

    Thanks
    Trish

What type of sound card do you have? Can you still play mp3 or wav files?

how do I find that out?LOL
I just read another thread and it states to get the old 2.91 Winamp I did that and still no luck.
It states that my sound card is either in use or creating errors nothing else is running.

I ran a search on *.mid and retrived some midi files that are on my pc and tried to play them using the winamp 2.91 and error:
A device error has been used that is out of range for your system.

          Start>Control Panel>Sounds and Audio Devices>Audio Tab.
See if there is a device mentioned in the small window. click on volume to see if volume is up.

This is also a very old version of winamp. Here is a link to the most recent version. Read the specs. It mentions Midi.
Download Winamp 5.9.2 & WACUP 1.99.21.20088 : Winamp is a versatile media player that allows you to enjoy a wide range of audio formats.

              Intel(r) Integrated audio
Is the only option showing in sound play back and sound recording
And in the midi music playback it was empty..I clicked on the drop down menu "Microsoft GS Wavetablesw synth" was there and I tried before to choose this option and click apply then ok and tried restarting prog and still nothing tried restarting comp then trying the prog and nothing then opened the tab and it was empty again.
              Installing the new winamp now,.

I do not seem to have the .sigma telc-Major Audio.
But if I just rt click on the sound, video, game controllers, properties, I get the box with the sound symbol in the top left hand corner with the title sound, video ,game controllers. Then empty.Nothing else on the page and no tabs

Can you play mp3s? If you can, it sounds like you are missing your midi codec.

go through control panel-->add/remove programs, and uninstall audio drivers. head over to your motherboard manufacturer's site and download & install latest
