Capturing Questions (Advanced User Responses Only)

I have an ATI Radeon AIW 32MB DDR Vid Card and have some questions on video capture. I know how to capture, am pretty competent w/ VDub, but can't figure out why my Radeon captures shows (30 minute episodes of the Simpsons) with audio sync problems. Is this normal? I have this setup on:

WinXP, 1.6 Ghz P4
40 GB 7200 RPM drive to capture on
640 MB P133 RAM
SB Live MP3+ Sound.
Use ATI Program to Capture

Are audio sync problems this normal? I was thinking, I use the ATI software to directly encode the capture in divx? Is this putting too much strain on my system and causing the audio sync problems? Would encoding in uncompressed avi format in ATI and later decoding into divx through vdub help? (as a note, the audio is out of sync when encoded into divx in ATI w/ PCM sound BEFORE i convert to mp3 in vdub.. so it isn't that conversion causing the problem. I have read the articles and it seems as if my audio is displaced AND stretched which seems like an awful amount of work. My computer should be fast enough to handle capture. I've seen the work of many of you advanced capture users and am jealous! Help me please! thanks guys!

i think that audio synch prob is caused when using mp3 at 44 khz instead of 48 but have to check that once too

The safest approach is to capture both Uncompressed video and audio (PCM 48,000Hz) - and then converting/compressing both under VirtualDub...

Maybe it helps to deactivate "Adjust video clock..." under Capture -> Timing. If that's not the reason you will have to write more about your VD-settings.
