    Editing frames in an AVI?

Alright, I have this project that I am doing.
Basically, there was an episode of Pokémon that was originally banned from the USA for a certain reason, but it aired once on Kids WB. I managed to find a TV-rip somewhere, so what I am trying to do is to put the English audio on top of the Japanese encode, which is far better quality.

However, the text on the "raw" encode is in Japanese, and I wanted the English text. I have attached screenshots of what I am talking about below:

Obviously the Japanese "raw" is better quality, and it doesn't have a watermark (Lucky for them, their TV stations don't have watermarks!). So, I want to edit just the 100 or so frames that have this picture, so that I get the Japanese one with the English words instead, so that I don't have that WB watermark and the crap quality.

Does anyone know how to save an AVI as frames so that I could edit them?

load into vdub, file-->save image sequence

I have attached screenshots of what I am talking about below:
should use jpeg. png only for screenshots of applications

Oh well at least you could see them.

So I would just save the frames, then put them back in the right framerate?

So VDub or VDubMod can't open the Japanese AVI. It plays fine everywhere... dunno what happened. It's just a TV-Rip.

        --EDIT--
The English one works fine... hmm.
But it says estimated size of 20GB? I gotta clear some HD space if that's the case.

it saves as bmp files, at least 24/second, course its going to be huge, you could alternatively save as png, but it'll take longer and unlikely you'll get too much file size reduction anyway. for the vdub error, download & install ffdshow from http://x264.nl, go start-->programs-->ffdshow-->vfw config-->decoder and set wmv3 to libavcodec

alternatively you could do it all with avisynth

I am not good with avisynth tho... it turned out like 20GB for a 21Min episode... woah.

Good thing I got some DVD+RWs.

I will try the FFDshow and see what happens.

think of it as an uncompressed avi

Oh also, naturally I have to cut some frames... like replace the Japanese theme song with the English one, and take out the scenes that were cut.

Then I have to match the audio up, so I was going to do it in chunks, like the theme, part 1, after cut, after next cut, etc then piece together.

The only way I know that lets you append is uncompressed. But that would be frickin huge. Any other ways?

All it lets me do is set to WMV9... no libavcodec option. It is for everything else but not WMV3.

Does lossless huffyuv look the same as uncompressed?
I have found that in AutoGK using 100% quality on DivX works fine, but what would I do in VDub, just set it to DivX and say 100% qual?

                      Hmmm, same error on WMV9.

Why would an AVI be encoded with WMV anyway?

strange, sure you did it properly?

well no matter then, consider this an intro to avisynth. install avisynth, run notepad, type
                        Code:
                        directshowsource("c:\path\to\video.avi")
making sure you adjust the path to match your directory, and save as script.avs

                        open that in vdub

                          Alright, that works.

So I just save that as a BMP, then open Paint or Photoshop and replace the Japanese letters with the English ones for those 200 frames or so?

Would there be a way to batch-save them, since it's just a still picture for like 2 seconds? (so maybe like 50 BMPs?)

I know how you load them back into VDub.

So once that's done, if I save as DivX 100% quality for all the parts (opening, and the cuts) it will let me append them and then add the English audio?
